November 18th, 2011The Vintage Look
November 9th, 2011One of my favourite trends at the moment is ‘vintage chic’. While I can’t confess to having a wardrobe Kate Moss or Alexa Chung would be proud of, I do love the beauty and elegance of this fabulously feminine trend that has made its mark on the fashion world and has, for quite some time now, inspired the wonderful world of interiors. There are many ways in which you can approach this trend. If you’ve got the time and budget, you can invest in large, grand pieces such as arm chairs, chaise lounges, furniture items or even a copper bath tub. You won’t have to look far either in your search for the perfect vintage statement. Many high street stores and designer outlets offer truly wonderful vintage pieces that will bring a sense of character to your home. But if it’s an authentic addition you’re after, why not visit a vintage fair or trawl the local antique and charity shops for a one-off.

Autumnal inspiration
October 31st, 2011In the same way you’d prepare your wardrobe for the change, replacing floaty fabrics and floral prints with chunky knitwear, scarves and hats, it’s important that your home style reflects the seasonal change too. These before and after shots of a Pembrokeshire house illustrate how a few simple additions from the high street and a lick of paint can transform a space without it costing the earth. Regardless of how much money you have to spend on the transformation or how much time you can dedicate to the cause, (it’s amazing what you can achieve over the course of a weekend!) you can look forward to creating a welcoming retreat this autumn, be it a high street overhaul or a designer makeover. Good luck!
Mother of Pearl
October 28th, 2011Tiles used to be considered a practical element of the design process but over the past few years that view has changed dramatically. Now, tiles can be used in a creative fashion to add aesthetic appeal to almost any room in the home. We have just added a luxurious Mother of Pearl range to our extensive collection of mosaics which demonstrates this theory perfectly – yes, they’re hard wearing and suited to wet areas but when they catch your eye, they last word that will spring to mind is ‘practical’!
Natural Style
October 21st, 2011
Our design team are as always, exceptionally busy, working on both large and small bathroom and interior projects. We just love the amazing range of tiles out there at the moment, and have recently been particularly inspired by the trend for textured natural stone products. These Contemporary Rocks look fantastic when used in a block in contrast to the smooth surface of the Folkstone tiles around the bath. In fact, we love them so much we have designed a room set for the Taylor’s Etc showroom in Cardiff to show them off!
Work the Trend – Colour Blocking at Home
July 13th, 2011Fashion and interiors quite often go hand in hand, both taking inspiration from the same colours, prints, cultures and eras. Trends are designed to evoke certain feelings, whether it’s on the catwalk or in the home section of a trendy department store. So when you fall in love for the season’s hottest trend, it’s only natural that you’ll want to incorporate it into different elements of your life, from shoes and dresses to cushions and throws. Sweet Dreams and Bedroom Schemes
July 13th, 2011The bedroom is a very special place. Like many people, I see my bedroom as a retreat from the outside world; a sanctuary to rest, relax and recuperate. For those reasons, particular care and attention should be paid to the decoration of this space. Read the rest of this entry »
‘Looking Back’
July 13th, 2011As much as looking forward is important in life, sometimes it’s nice to reflect on the past and take inspiration from yester years. As an interior designer, this concept is slightly contradictory as we’re constantly being asked to innovate and come up with fresh new ideas but recently the trend for ‘all things retro’ has taken the nation by storm.
